Firstly, thank you so much for your interest in coming to Germany for your Student Exchange Programme. In the following paragraphs you will find more information regarding the application process, the requirements and your possible stay!

Internship providers

We offer internships at the community pharmacy, hospital pharmacy and research at universities for usually 4 to 6 weeks. Sometimes we can make an exception and a stay for more than 6 weeks might be possible or a stay for only two weeks. Staying for two weeks is ONLY possible in the community pharmacy.

We participate in both winter and summer SEP and our internships are available from February till April or June till October. Currently our most active cities are Heidelberg, Jena, Kiel and Erlangen. So the chances are very high that you will be placed in one of those cities but this can change due to availability.

Accomodation and finances

The types of accomodation we can offer differ depending on the host city and availability. But in general we have rooms in student dormitories (approx 300€/month), private apartments ore shared flats (approx 300-600€/month) or apartments offered by the pharmacy/university (approx. 300-400€/month). The stay is fully financed by the incoming student, and unfortunately no pocket money can be provided.

Requirements

  • Advanced German language knowledge for community or hospital pharmacy. For University advanced English or German is required.
  • be currently enrolled as a student at your home university
  • have a valid passport
  • have completed at least 4 semesters in pharmacy school
  • get an international health insurance that is valid in Germany
  • Students should be interested in working a full week and learning many new things from our excellent hosts.
  • Students must sign a waiver of liability stating that they will accept the conditions of SEP with BPhD Germany.
  • In some cases (if you are not from EU) students need to sign a Certificate of Enrolment and Formal Obligation from the Federal Employment Agency. Don´t worry: this process and service are for free!
  • !Since the timeline for the Winter SEP is quite tight we only accept students who are EU citizens or can afford to apply for an Express-VISA and fly spontaneously!

Information on Work Permits and Visa

Germany is a member of the European Union. The SEO can provide the applicant with an invitation letter if necessary. Please take a look at the website from the Federal Foreign Agency whether you require a Visa for coming to Germany. Furthermore, it is highly recommended to ask your own German embassy for more detailed information.

Selection Procedures

The German legislation does not allow graduates to complete internships in Germany without payment. Therefore, we can only accept students who will still be enrolled as a student at their home university at the time of their SEP.

Please take into consideration that the SEO is a mediator between the students and the hosts. The hosts make the final decision about who they want to take in.

During your stay – social events

We are planning to organize at least one „National Social Programme (NSP)”: weekend for all SEP students being in Germany to meet each other, have fun and discover the culture of a famous German city. Mostly during the Summer SEP. Furthermore SEP students are allowed to attend NSP of the medical students exchange programme and also the local events organised by German medical students. We are trying to connect with more Exchange-Programmes to increase the number of events. Sometimes there are 2 or more SEP students in the same city at the same time. Some students will be placed in community pharmacies in small cities or rural regions. As there are no pharmacy students living in their cities/villages, they can travel to bigger cities on the weekends to meet up with German pharmacy students. During the weekdays, their hosts may do activities with them after work.
